The Untamed is a Chinese fantasy, adventure, and romance drama featuring the leads Xiao Zhan (Wu Wuxian) and Wang Yibo (Lan Wangji). It is a unique love story of two young boys who solve a murder mystery while balancing their relationships and duties with their family and the sect.

After 16 years, someone revives Wu Wuxian to solve the murder mystery of the leader of the Nie sect. Wu Wuxian’s death mystery is related to the mystery of the murderer. Wu Wuxian and Lan Wangji solve the mystery of the murder and unfold all the past secrets. Their relationship further fortifies during this time, and they express their love openly after 16 years.
Other characters who support them in this journey have done a miraculous job of bringing the characters alive. Every character’s background story explains who and what they are in the present. The uniqueness of the story is how it is woven around the lead characters, who not only entertain but make you feel all the deep emotions. It is an emotional journey for the viewer that takes the soul into a whole new world of magic, martial arts, and love.
The writer has successfully maintained the secrecy of the plot. The villain is revealed only at the end of the series. A few episodes have an overdose of emotions, with the climax stretching to three episodes. However, this does not make anyone give up on the show, and the interest remains till the end.
